The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

ODP Tryouts/Selection Process

ODP Tryouts/Selection Process

Vermont ODP holds open tryouts. Players do not need an invitation or recommendation to participate. Any soccer player who is: 1) a Vermont resident and 2) a US Youth Soccer registered player in good standing with the Vermont Soccer Association (VSA) is eligible for consideration to participate in ODP provided that s/he meets the age requirements for the established age groups.  A player may not tryout for ODP in more than one state association.

ODP Tryouts are open for the 2020 season. Tryouts will be held on Sunday, November 3rd at Hathaway Fields in Rutland and Sunday, November 10th at the Tree Farm in Essex Junction. SOUTH BURLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL.   Please refer to the schedule below for training times based on your child's birth year.  Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout dates to optimize opportunity for player evaluation. Please plan to arrive at the fields early to ensure time for check-in and warm-up.

Players are selected, in most states, on the basis of open tryouts. These tryouts are conducted by the state association coaches who are recognized for their ability to identify and train players with superior skills. Some state associations combine scouting techniques and invitations to certain players with the open tryouts. Selection of these players is not an easy task. The state association head coach or State Coach will be assisted in the selection process by several other qualified coaches from the club or league level. Players are evaluated on the four components that make up a soccer player:
  1. Technique
  2. Tactics
  3. Fitness and Athletic Ability
  4. Psychological Component (attitude)

All players will be notified of the results by email within approximately 2 weeks following the final tryout session. Pool teams will consist of 20-30 players in each age group pool. Only a maximum of 18 players will be selected from each age group pool for participation in the ODP Championship Tournament in June. Selections for the ODP Tournament Team will be made by late April or early May.

Individuals interested in participating in VT ODP but unable to attend either tryout date must complete the following steps:

  1. E-mail Alison Kaiser at
  2. Complete an ODP Letter of Recommendation from a Current Club Coach and mail to the VSA Office:

               Vermont Soccer Association - ODP
               528 Essex Road, Suite 208
               Williston, VT 05495

  • Registration fees will only cover Vermont trainings (winter & early spring indoor as well as outdoor); Specifics will be detailed in player offer letter in early December along with coach assignment and makeup of the age group of the team.
  • US Youth Soccer ODP, MSL and NLWS are collaborating on Regional and National scouting programs at ODP regional and national training camps.  For that reason, ODP Identification Camp will now be by invitation only.  In order for players to earn an initiation to ID Camp, it must be issued by an ODP Scout.
  • New England states are working together to coordinate a series of events to showcase our players before these scouts.  Each of these events will be charged to the player account in addition to the training fees, based on player participation.
  • Vermont will also be hosting its own Identification Tournament February 7, 8, & 9, 2020 at The Edge in Williston.  Regional Scouts from both the boys and girls programs will be on hand to observe the play.
  • These changes apply to all age groups including U12s who are now a part of the larger program.
  • U12s will compete in the ODP Championship Tournament in either Delaware (Boys) or New Jersey (Girls), June 5-9, 2020.

There will be much more information to follow, but these are some of the major highlights to expect in the changes for 2020!
